Questions Became My Answer

When I walked into Coach Excellence Express School little did I know I would begin a journey of questions, and that these questions would become a central force in my life. After all, I had over 25 years of experience in the direct sales industry.

Questions Became My Answer

What questions had I not asked or been asked? I was skeptical, but willing to learn.

What I experienced at that school was a complete paradigm shift. I shifted from being the one who had the answers to being the one who asked the questions. I learned that asking the right questions would empower my team to uncover answers that were right for them, not just answers that I thought they should have. I started trying it out, but honestly was still skeptical that I would get the results that I desired for them. Note that last phrase that “I desired for them.” Unconsciously, I was making it all about me and what I wanted them to accomplish. I had made improvements, but wasn’t yet truly embracing this new paradigm.

After attending Advanced Coaching and Certification I became more conscious of how I was putting my strong drive for success on my team, rather than meeting them where they were. My personality is that I want BIG success NOW and FAST! I became much more aware and skilled at listening and using questions to uncover my team member’s individual desires, motivations, obstacles and success strategies. The great thing is that I didn’t have to know anything but the right questions to ask to empower them to come up with their own answers—answers that were real to them and would actually work!

I have coached many team members many hours during this past year and am continuing to hone my skills. I have to work hard to constantly be aware of slowing down to listen and be present during each coaching session. It seems that some of my sessions are absolutely exhilarating and others I ask myself, “What could I have done differently?” Then I remember to focus on progress rather than perfection. My coaching skills are still being refined and the more I get on DWSA calls and trainings the more opportunities I have to learn and improve my coaching practice.

My biggest surprise from my DSWA coaching experience has been the impact that it has had not only on my work life, but the quality of my personal life as well.

The more I practiced coaching others, the more I ended up coaching myself. I found that anytime I would encounter an obstacle in my life, I would automatically self-coach.

If I was experiencing a stressful day, I would ask myself, “What, if anything, could make me feel less stressful right now?” The realization that I can create life solutions by asking the right questions has empowered me to come into a deeper relationship with and awareness of my true self. Sometimes it is by asking a simple question to start my day such as “What would make this a day to remember?” or “What can I do today to make myself feel successful?”

Questions Became My Answer...

I am totally convinced now that questions are the answer. My goal is to continue to apply all that I have learned and to fine tune my listening, intuition and question choices so I can live my best life and empower others to do the same.
